What US Buyers Should Know About Sourcing Door Hardware From India
2026-08-31
More importers and distributors in the USA are looking at Indian manufacturers for door hardware. Labour costs are lower in India, and the manufacturing base has grown a lot in the last decade. But sourcing from another country still means real questions. Will the hardware hold up? Will it match what a US building or homeowner actually needs? Here is what matters when you look at an Indian door hardware manufacturer for a USA order.
Ask about real cycle testing, not just a claim
Anyone can say their hardware is durable. What matters is whether it is actually tested, and to what number. At YEN Door Closer, we test our door closers to withstand up to 300,000 open-and-close cycles before a design is approved for sale. Our floor springs are tested to 100,000 cycles. Those numbers matter for a USA buyer because commercial doors in offices, schools, and retail stores get used constantly. A door closer that is not tested to a real number is a guess, not a product.

A hinge can look good on day one and still fail within a year if the steel grade is wrong. We manufacture our S.S. hinges and spring hinges in grade S.S. 304 stainless steel, not just mild steel, for anywhere humidity or corrosion is a concern. That matters whether the hardware is going to a coastal city in India or a coastal city in the USA. A buyer sourcing hardware for the USA should always ask what steel grade is actually used, not just what finish is on top of it.
Climate range matters for a country as varied as the USA
The USA has cold northern winters and hot southern summers, sometimes in the same shipment of orders. Hydraulic fluid in a door closer is sensitive to temperature, and ordinary fluid can thicken or thin at the extremes. We engineered our fluid to perform from minus 20 degrees Celsius up to 45 degrees Celsius, so the same closer works through an Indian summer, an Indian winter, and export markets with a wider climate range. That is a real engineering choice, and it is worth asking any manufacturer whether their hydraulic fluid is rated for the climate range you actually need in the USA.
Leak-proof seals, and why they matter over distance
Oil leaking from a closer is a common complaint anywhere, and it gets worse when hardware has already travelled a long distance to reach the USA. Our T-Slide and Era closers use special oil seals to prevent leaks, built to meet global standards, not just Indian ones. For a USA buyer, that means fewer returns and fewer complaints from the installer on site.

A wide product range from one manufacturer
YEN Door Closer makes a full range from one factory in Delhi. That includes surface-mounted closers like Era, Kapsa, Niko, and Pneumatic, T-Slide and Concealed closers, spring hinges in mild steel and S.S. 304, floor springs for glass doors, door stoppers, and shelf brackets. For a USA importer, sourcing more of a project's hardware from one tested manufacturer is simpler than piecing it together from several suppliers, and it means one point of contact for quality and consistency.
We already ship to the USA
YEN Door Closer already sells to countries including the USA and UAE, and our hardware is built to meet the requirements those markets expect. We have been manufacturing door hardware in Delhi since 1966, with the YEN brand registered in 1975, so this is not a new venture into exports. It is decades of manufacturing experience applied to hardware that now reaches buyers well beyond India.
If you are sourcing door hardware for the USA, the questions above are worth asking any manufacturer, not just us. Real cycle-test numbers, a named steel grade, a stated temperature range, and seals built to a real standard tell you far more than a glossy product sheet.
