Floor Springs, Patch Fittings and Lock Handles: What a Glass Door Actually Needs

2026-09-03

A glass door does not use hinges or a normal closer body. It needs its own set of hardware, fitted into the floor and onto the glass itself. This is what floor spring accessories cover. Here is a simple guide to the three parts most glass door projects need.

The floor spring itself

A floor spring sits inside the floor, under the door, and does the job a door closer does on a normal door. It swings the glass shut on its own, at a controlled speed.

YEN's Floor Spring is tested for 1,00,000 cycles. It has a heavy gauge 304 grade stainless steel cover plate on top, so the visible part on the floor stays rust free. The box below is anti-corrosive black powder coated. It comes with double speed adjustment, so a fitter can set both the main closing speed and the final latch speed.

There are three models to choose from. Two are double cylinder floor springs, rated for 150kg and 120kg doors. The third is a single cylinder model, rated for 80kg. A heavy glass entrance door needs one of the double cylinder models. A lighter internal glass door can use the single cylinder one. The floor spring is also available with a wooden door fitting, so it is not limited to glass alone.

Patch fittings, and why there are so many types

Patch fittings are the metal clamps and connectors that hold a glass door together at its top, bottom, and along its edge. Because glass doors come in many layouts, YEN makes patch fittings in several forms.

There is a Top Patch and a Bottom Patch, which clamp the glass at the top and bottom of the door leaf. An Upper Patch and a Top Pivot work with the floor spring to carry the door's weight and let it swing. For corners and connections, there is a Corner Lock, a Big L with pivot, a Small L, an L 90° Wall to Glass Connector, and a 180° Glass to Glass Connector. Where two glass panels meet without a frame, a Glass to Glass Lock in a round shape holds them together, and a Glass to Wall Lock does the same job where glass meets a wall.

Picking the right patch fitting comes down to the door's layout. A single glass door swinging into a wall opening needs different connectors than a glass partition where two panels meet at a corner. Look at how the glass panels line up on site, then match the patch fitting to that junction.

Handle with lock, for entrances that need to be secured

A glass door at a shop or office entrance usually needs to lock, not just swing shut. YEN's Handle with Lock is made of S.S. 304 and comes in S.S. and Black finishes. It is a 1500mm pull handle with a lock built in, supplied with 4 keys.

The lock works with a solid stainless steel bolt that drops into the floor, and a dust proof floor Brass strike that keeps the bolt hole clean and working over time. The bolt itself is 16mm x 30mm. This handle and lock combination works on both wooden and glass doors, so it is not limited to glass entrances alone.

Putting the three together

A typical glass entrance door in Delhi, or anywhere else in India, needs all three parts working as one system. The floor spring, matched by weight to the door, does the swinging and closing. The patch fittings, chosen for the door's exact layout, hold the glass panel together and connect it to the floor spring and the frame or wall. The Handle with Lock secures the door once it is closed, at the times of day the shop or office needs it locked.

Get the floor spring's capacity right for the glass door's weight, choose patch fittings that match the actual glass layout on site, and add a lockable handle wherever the door needs to be secured. Done this way, a glass door swings smoothly and closes safely for years, whether it sits in a Delhi shopfront or an office anywhere in India.
