The Coil spring is built specifically for gates, with a heavy gauge wire spring and reinforced end fittings, in sizes from 200mm to 300mm and finished in black paint for a longer working life outdoors. The Helical and Arrow springs are more commonly used on doors, though the Arrow, also 200mm to 300mm, can handle a heavier gate too.
The Helical spring comes in a 150mm standard size or a smaller 100mm mini version, both heavy gauge with adjustable spring strength. The mini size suits a smaller or lighter door where a full-size spring would be oversized; the standard size covers most ordinary doors.
An exposed door spring, like the Helical, Arrow or Coil, uses a simple coiled spring to pull the door shut, with no hydraulic mechanism controlling the speed. It's a more basic, lower-cost option than a full door closer, common on older buildings, gates and doors where a controlled two-speed close isn't needed.
