Common Door Hardware Problems and How We Fix Them

Every hardware shop owner hears the same complaints. A door slams shut. A hinge sags after a year. A closer leaks oil onto the floor. These are not small annoyances. They cost time, money, and trust. At YEN Door Closer, we look at each complaint as a design problem, not just bad luck. Here are some of the most common door problems in India, and the specific way we solve each one.
The problem: doors that slam shut
A door that bangs shut is loud, and it wears out the frame over time. It usually happens when a closer has no way to control speed near the end of its swing. We build double speed control into our door closers, so the door can move faster through the middle of its swing and slow down right before it latches. The fitter can set both speeds on site, to match the door and the space it sits in. No more slamming, and no more startled staff or customers.

The opposite problem is just as common. A door swings shut, but never actually latches, leaving a gap for cold air, dust, or noise to get through. This usually points to weak or worn spring tension. Our spring hinges and designer door springs come with adjustable spring strength across the whole range, not only on premium models. A fitter can tune the closing force after installation, so the door swings fully shut every time, instead of stopping short.
The problem: oil leaks from the closer
An old complaint about hydraulic door closers is oil pooling under the door over months of use. Leaking fluid means falling performance, and a mess on the floor. We fixed this with better seals in our closer bodies, so fluid stays where it belongs. Our T-Slide and Concealed models both use this leak-proof design, which is one reason they hold up in high-traffic doors in offices and hotels across India, year after year.
The problem: hardware that rusts or corrodes
Bathrooms, coastal buildings, and humid cities are hard on ordinary steel hardware. A hinge or handle that looks fine on installation day can be rusting within a year in the wrong conditions. That is why we manufacture our S.S. hinges and spring hinges in grade S.S. 304 stainless steel, not just mild steel. It is a specific material choice, not a marketing label, and it is the right one for any humid site in India, from a coastal city to a busy bathroom.
The problem: closers that struggle in extreme heat or cold
A door closer that works fine in a mild Delhi winter can behave very differently in Gulf summer heat, or thin out and fail in extreme cold. Hydraulic fluid is sensitive to temperature, and ordinary fluid can thicken or thin at the extremes. We engineered our fluid to perform from minus 20 degrees Celsius up to 45 degrees Celsius, so the same closer works as well in a harsh Indian summer as it does through winter, or in export markets with hotter climates.

The problem: replacement parts that don't quite match
Hardware shop owners know this one well. A customer needs a replacement hinge or closer years after the original was fitted, and it does not sit or swing quite the same as the rest. This traces back to how a factory builds its products. Since our founder set up dedicated tooling for YEN Door Closer, every unit off the line has matched the last, batch after batch. That consistency is what lets a shop confidently sell a replacement part today that behaves exactly like the one fitted years ago.
The problem: hardware wearing out faster than expected
A door in a school, office, or hospital in India can be used thousands of times a day. Hardware that is not built for that volume wears out fast, and then it is the shop that hears about it. We test our door closers to withstand up to 300,000 open-and-close cycles, and our floor springs to 100,000 cycles, before a design is approved for sale. That is roughly the equivalent of decades of daily use. It is also why our floor springs can carry glass and wooden doors up to 120 kg in shopping malls and hotels without giving up early.

None of this is about clever marketing. Each fix above came from a real complaint, from a shop owner, a fitter, or a building manager somewhere in India.
