Look for a closer that's actually cycle-tested, not just rated on paper. YEN's Era, T-Slide, Trax, Klacik and Titan models are all tested to 300,000 cycles, with double speed control so a fitter can adjust the closing and latching speed separately. Special oil seals or anti-leak rubber parts matter too, since a cheap seal is usually the first thing to fail on a heavily used door.
A closer with a P.U painted or metallic finish designed for long life, like the Era, T-Slide or Titan, holds up better in humid air than an unfinished body. For the hardware around it, like hinges, pairing it with YEN's S.S 304 stainless steel range, corrosion-resistant in finishes such as brush steel polished, electro black and antique, matters more in a coastal climate.
A door closer uses a spring and a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder to control how a door swings shut. Double speed control, on models like the Era and T-Slide, lets a fitter set one speed for the main swing and a slower one for the final few degrees, called latching speed, so the door doesn't slam. The Concealed model fits this inside a 32mm body that sits inside a 40mm door, invisible once installed.
